Common Snags on the Creator Desk

The questions we hear most, answered plainly. If yours isn't here, send it over.

Should I upgrade my microphone or my room first?

Your room and mic distance. Soft furnishings, a closed door and a dynamic mic close to your mouth fix more than a pricier microphone. See recording tools.

Is free software really good enough?

For most solo creators, yes. OBS Studio, Audacity, DaVinci Resolve, GIMP, Inkscape, Krita and Blender are capable professional tools. Pay for software when a specific feature saves you measurable time.

How should I name my files?

Date first in YYYY-MM-DD format, then an episode number and a short slug: 2026-03-14_ep042_desk-lighting. Inside, use numbered subfolders for each pipeline station. Details on the workflows page.

What loudness should my podcast be?

Many producers target around −16 LUFS integrated for stereo podcasts, in line with Apple's long-standing recommendation. Consistency between episodes matters most.

What size should a YouTube thumbnail be?

YouTube documents 1280 × 720 pixels for custom thumbnails. Build one master file at that size and reuse it.

Can I use any Creative Commons music in monetised videos?

No. Licences with the NC (NonCommercial) element may exclude monetised use. Prefer CC0 or CC BY, credit the creator and keep a licence log. See the resources library.

How many pieces should I batch at once?

Two or three per setup is a good start. Batching more often leads to fatigue and lower quality on the last piece.

How do I avoid burnout?

Choose a cadence you could keep through a bad month, keep a buffer of finished pieces and schedule at least one no-production day each week. More on the rhythm page.

Do you accept sponsored placements?

No. Cosmicparcelrelayfri is independent and does not accept payment for mentions or rankings of tools.
